Hi Guy's

I would like to know if my procedure is correct regarding configuring the
WINS, becuase i have error in extending the shema.

Server :

SMS_2003_Server = 192.168.100.38
WINS_Server = 192.168.100.22
SMS SITE CODE = ABC

Procedure on WINS:

1. On the WINS_Server i performed the ff task
2. Type the following commands at the command prompt, and then press ENTER
after each command:
• netsh
• wins
• server

3. add name name=SMS_SLP endchar=1A rectype=0 ip={192.168.100.38}

Note: 192.168.100.38 is my SMS_2003_Server

4. add name name=MP_ABC endchar=1A rectype=0 ip={192.168.100.38}

Note: ABC is represent my site code
192.168.100.38 is my SMS_2003_Server

On Client :
1. Add the WINS IP to client which is 192.168.100.22

Error in SMS Client

* Attempting to retrieve SLPs from AD
* Failed to resolve IP address from WINS
* LSGetSLP : Failed to resolve SLP from WINS, is it published
* LSGetAssignedSiteFromSLP : Unable to get the list of SLPs

Question:

1. Do I need to re-configure the our SMS server ? after I confgure the
WIN_SERVER ?
2. Do I need to restart the WINS_SERVER or re-configure
3. Is there any problems on my configuration in WINS_SERVER
4. What is missing on my config.

Please advise ...your help is really appriciated

best regards
robert

Everything you describe looks fine to me... although, I did not see where
you enabled the SLP role on your SMS site server? And, you need to define
the managed client boundaries in your SMS site; either IP subnet and/or AD
site name...

Hi Steve thanks for the quick response.

1. Basically, I enabled the SLP role in SMS_2003_Server = 192.168.100.38
I just enabled the SLP on the SMS server console together with MP, and DP

Is there another workaround on how to enabled the SLP point ?

2. I defined also the site boundaries listed below the all IP subnet in our
network
1. 192.168.100.0
2. 192.168.101.0
3. 192.168.102.0
I defined also the in the site boundaries by adding the
Default-First-Site-Name

I have question, what you mean by "I did not see where
you enabled the SLP role on your SMS site server?"

I performed this ff task in the WINS server
add name name=SMS_SLP endchar=1A rectype=0 ip={192.168.100.38}

We have only one SMS server and all role is assigned to him.

I don't know also if I need to configure the lmhost, i'm not sure if this
related on the issue.

please advise , thanks for continuos support

robert

You need to configure WINS Server IP in Network Configurations of Clients. If
your clients are DHCP Enabled, just go to your DHCP Server and create a

In re-reading this thread, are you sure that your Management Point is 100%
functional?

Also, you may want to investigate the AD schema extension error and correct
that as well.
